This drink are originally called “Bandrek” in Indonesia. Traditional Sundanese comfort drink, it is suitable beverage to be enjoy during cold weather, what a perfect match for this winter.


To make it are dead easy, and you can make it while you doing something else, I love this kind of recipe, un-demanding one. I like my recipe like my man, silent 😀 and no demanding *hahaha *sigh

I enjoy this drink for my breakfast, together with fried banana wrap in Phyllo pastry. To make it also another dead easy, wrap the banana in a pastry sheet, sprinkle with chop chocolate and drop it in really hot oil. OR you want to be more healthy? Bake the wrap banana in 180 degree Celsius oven for 15-20 minute until it golden brown, then you good to go.

Followed are my personal BANDREK recipe, I don’t think this recipe are original, but it is just taste good, so that is enough for me. While for the sweetener, I used Javanesse Palm sugar, which is different compared to regular brown sugar, if you have difficulties to get it, you can used brown sugar instead. With your preference sweetness, just free yourself.


SERVE 3 cup of warm drink


  • 150 gram ginger, skin off, crush it then slice it roughly
  • 2-3 lemon grass, crush the white part
  • 100 gram brown sugar (you can used less sugar)
  • 1 liter water


  1. Put all the ingredient together, boiling the water, continue cooking until the water are reduce little bit and it infuse with ginger lemon grass. You know you done cooking when the liquid are infuse with strong gingery taste. Then taking out from the heat and ready to serve.
