I am cooking this vegetable as a fixer upper for my spicy cabbage fried rice, this cabbage fried rice are one of heirloom recipe from my mother, just remembering old day. I have cold rice in fridge that need an upgrade, I remember few weeks ago reading a story about fried rice from westerner point of view, he said fried rice is suitable as saving money meal, he refer it as nutritious struggle meal, and I think he is quite right. I remember old day, when my mom only have several ingredient and cold rice, her fried rice was go to recipe for all family member, it was satisfyingly good and fulfilling, usually we have it as a breakfast, it was struggle old days but warming experience as kid myself.


And now, my kids are more vegan than before, broccoli are one of their favourite, if they saw broccoli, the rest of the meal will compete with this broccoli and they will lose it. So this dishes suitable for after-school meal, appetising, fresh and crunchy. I am in transition to be vegetarian the whole family, it was surprising moment when we finally decide to no longer eat meat, but I was just happy for them. I think this broccoli recipe are quite a lot out there, I hope mine can snuggling into your preference *sigh.

Serve 1 plate of side dishes


  • I head of broccoli, slice it in size bite
  • 1 handfull of green bean, slice it
  • 1 big carrot slice
  • 1 onion, slice
  • 4 garlic cloves, slice or mince
  • 1 celery stalk, slice
  • 1 tbs soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp fresh grind black pepper
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil
  • 50ml water


  1. In medium size pan and medium hight heat, put inside the onion and vegetable oil, sautéed until a bit browning then put inside the garlic, back to sautéed again for 2-3 minute (keep an eye to avoid garlic to burning).
  2. After fragrance and the onion a lot more darker, put inside celery, carrot and green bean, sautéed for a moment and pour the water. Seasoned with sea salt, sugar, soy sauce and black pepper, stir it well and give it a taste, adjust it according your preference.
  3. Lastly put inside the broccoli and sesame oil, continue to cooked until the broccoli are change in bright green colour and the water evaporated.
  4. Take off from the heat and ready to serve



SERVE 3 small portion


Fried Rice spice paste (grind all below ingredient together until smooth)

  • 1/2 small onion
  • 1 big french shallot
  • 2 garlic clove
  • 1 red chilli (seed out if you don’t like spicy, or add more if your spicy addict just like me)

Other ingredient

  • 2 medium plate of cold rice
  • 1/4 head of cabbage, slice it rough
  • 1 small carrot, slice or small cube
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp brown rice
  • 1 tbs sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tbs vegetable oil


  1. In medium pan and high heat, put inside the nasi goreng spice paste and vegetable oil, sautéed until fragrance.
  2. Put inside cabbage and slice carrot, stir until soft. Then continue to put inside the rice. Seasoned with the rest of ingredient, stir thoroughly and set the heat high.
  3. Give it a taste and adjust it according your preference. Then take it out from the heat.
  4. Ready to serve
  5. I serve mine with rice cracker as well, yummy
