RUJAK BUAH / INDONESIAN FRUIT SALAD – SPICY SALAD

On hot summer day, and classic Indonesian fruit are all in seasoned this are fun way to enjoy fruit, well at least for me. Basically all sour fruit are go for Rujak for us Indonesian. Somehow the sourness are more tolerable when you enjoy it with this sticky spice sauce, well technically I could called it sauce, it is too thick to be called sauces, but nevermind.

It is spicy, bit touch of garlic if you want to and touch of sweetness from chunk of palm sugar. I made it in traditional Indonesian stone pestle and mortar which add some interesting feeling if you enjoy those fruit directly from the stone, for me it gave me nostalgic feeling.

RUJAK BUAH / INDONESIAN FRUIT SALAD – SPICY SALAD

INGREDIENT

  • All sour fruit you could imagine, slice it, here I give you in ideas pineapple, apple, cucumber (for freshness), mango, I put some celery stalk (which is not traditional)

THE SAUCE

  • 2-3 bird eye chilli
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • sea salt
  • 50-70 gram palm sugar
  • 1 tbs tamarind sauce
  • water to enhanced the sauce — just enough to make it runnier

HOW TO

  1. Grind all the sauce ingredient in pestle and mortal until soft, then ready to be enjoy directly with the slice fruit.
